Trademark Application

To register a trademark to protect your company or product name, slogan, tag line, or logo, you must file a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The potential trademark owner files an application for two different reasons—(1) to use the mark in commerce (“intent-to-use” or ITU application) or (2) to notify the USPTO that the mark is already used in commerce. Registration places your trademark on a national list of trademarks, establishing exclusive nationwide ownership of the mark and providing notice to others that the mark is unavailable.
